Gingerbread Village fun

I’m going to be really honest, usually Gingerbread construction and decoration with my kids is like 40 minutes of suffering for 4 minutes of cuteness/fun. There are tears (kids) and profanity (parents) when the houses inevitably fall apart and it’s a huge mess, and yet I insist we keep trying. I don’t know why or how, but this year was so much better. The ratio was much more like 20 minutes of suffering for 20 minutes of cuteness and fun, and the suffering was light, mostly just Aaron and I telling the kids 4000 times to stay on the sofa until it was time to decorate and reinforcing the roofs. Having learned the hard way a few years in a row, I’ve taken over gingerbread house construction and just bring the kids over for the candy decorating.

Clara was more interested in eating than decorating, but even she got into the action! They aren’t the most beautiful gingerbread houses I’ve ever seen, but considering how involved the kids were I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out and no one cried or cursed!

Are you making Gingerbread houses this year? We got our mini Gingerbread kit at Target and a similar pack of Wilton Christmas edible decorations to the ones linked below and I did construction on one of my favorite 16 x 20 platters.
