Hot to (Turkey) Trot

Last year on Thanksgiving I did my first 5k. We signed up for a Turkey Trot in San Antonio with our best Texas friends and bundled up and walked the 3.11 miles to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank. It was so much fun!

I’ll be really honest, I NEVER understood the appeal of races, but this was just walking, with extra spirit. I wore Clara for most of the course in our Ergo front pack which meant I was moving slow, and my friend who was much more experienced at races (but expecting) graciously kept me company in the slow lane while the husbands surged ahead pushing the boys in our double jogging stroller. I cannot get over how little Magnus looks in these photos. Emojis added to protect privacy.

After the race was finished, we went out to IHOP (because it was open on Thanksgiving) for a delicious and decadent breakfast. We had such a good time that we decided we’d make it a tradition.

With COVID surging, most races have been cancelled, and we wouldn’t opt to spend time in a large crowd even if they were pushing on, so we have to modify.

I found a virtual Turkey Trot that we are going to give a try right in our Colorado Springs area to benefit the local YMCA.

They are providing super cute shirts!

And to make it even more fun in this virtual environment, we’re ordering festive headgear and accessories. Affiliate links below.
