Thanksgiving Decor & Thankful leaves

First thing on the morning of November 1 we started to pack up our all our Halloween decor and make room for a new season (spare our Pumpkins which we are saving for a farm composter). I’ll be really honest, I would have been fine launching right into Christmas decorating like most of the people in my social feeds seem to have done, but Aaron is a traditionalist, and would like to hold off to give Thanksgiving it’s due, so that’s what I’m trying to do.

We made a quick change on the front porch, taking the Halloween adornments off our fall-hued thistle wreath and swapped our Jack-o’-Lantern doormat for our new “Hope you brought pie” doormat. It’s cute AND honest. Sold out online at Target, but this week there were still plenty available in store. And my favorite new addition, an inflatable turkey. This is my first foray into inflatable yard decor, and the kids reaction suggests Tom Turkey won’t be our last.

Inside we added a Thank Ful banner to our fall felted ball garlands, brought in a cute cornucopia basket, updated our letterboard with a Thanksgiving greeting and started our gratitude visual journal.

For each night leading up to Thanksgiving we sit down together as a family and talk about the things big and small that we are grateful for that day and then using a paint pen to write down some of those things on a foam leaf sticker that we’re sticking on our back door slider.

None of these are earth-shattering or magazine worthy, just simple little touches that help us keep our mindset on all we have to be grateful for in this season of Thanksgiving.
