Online thrifting for our Christmas card mini photo session
Do you ever shop pre-loved? I stumbled upon Poshmark a couple years ago on a hunt for a replacement pair of my favorite discontinued sunglasses and was delighted to find a vibrant re-sale community. Then more recently I also joined Mercari to snag a few toys and decor items I was hunting for and couldn’t find traditional retail. One thing that I think is so great about this way to shop is the variety of what you can find, everything from vintage to new with tags designer clothing.
This weekend we had a mini photo session against a backdrop of a lovely vintage red pickup truck. In planning for the photos I got the idea to put the whole family in coordinating fair isle sweaters, jeans, and our red Hunter boots. Aaron already had the perfect sweater from Lands End a few seasons back, but I needed to snag 4 more for the rest of us. As I hit my standard stores (Boden, Janie and Jack, Target, Old Navy, Lands End, Gap, etc) I struggled to find exactly what I wanted, either the colors didn’t complement the truck/Aaron’s sweater or the prices were higher than I was willing to pay. I can get behind the occasional splurge but $60 for a sweater my child is likely to cover in ketchup one hour into wearing is too rich for my blood, especially x 3. So I turned to the online resellers and between Poshmark, Mercari, and EBay I picked up 5 new sweaters (Charlie’s came in a set of 2) for right around $100 total with shipping. Two of the five were new with tags (or NWT if you’re up on the lingo) and mine is an awesome oversized vintage beauty from the 90s. Not bad for less than half of what I’d have paid for them traditional retail!
Below is a sneak peek of the sweaters. I always like to lay out coordinating family outfits together on a bed to make sure they look as good together in reality as I picture them in my head. The kids looked so cute!
I can’t wait to get the photos back and out on our Christmas cards!!
