Diy it’s a small world mural and toy

Clara’s nursery design is inspired by the classic Disney ride “It’s a small world”. I got the basics of the room set up the first week we moved in (furniture, diaper station, etc) and then a few weeks later when my sister was visiting we painted a mural together inspired by the iconic Mary Blair facade. I’m really pleased with how the mural turned out and it is huge but otherwise the room lacked a lot that would tie in the theme.

The finished project

I wanted to add a little more of the fun of the ride so decided it was time for another project. Originally I though I would attempt a DIY flower stake based on this tutorial to echo the entry and exit flowers of greetings in different languages, but as I gathered supplies I realized I was going to spend over $100 and a lot of time for something purely decorative. Before committing I did another search for wooden flowers and happened upon a new idea. Target had a darling wooden flower developmental toy and it was part of a spend $100 get $25 off promotion so into my cart it went!

I figured I could take my fine-tip paint markers and non-toxic sealant and add the greetings that would pick up that element from the ride in a way that was both cute and functional. Instead of just a decoration, Clara has a new toy!

Finished project

All told I got it done for a lot less time and money and even better the end result is more fun for my girl.

I’m working on some other finishing touches but plan to share more about the room design and the full reveal in the next couple of weeks!
